Creating a Sacred Space in your home

Making your home feel like a sacred place for yourself doesn’t have to be difficult. In fact, it is quite simple! Your home is where you base yourself. It is where you sleep, eat, and come together with family and friends. Ensuring that your space is always positive and filled with good energies can improve the quality of time you spend at home, helping you unwind easier, and giving you a place of stillness in the midst of chaos. Whatever your beliefs or religion, you can create a space that serves as a reminder to connect with yourself and the Divine that you believe in.

Placing your intention in how you want to feel when you are in this space is the key.  Start small and pick a space in your home that you will go to daily and feels good to you. The following are some tips on what to do and help you decide where the best place to start would be.

Cleaning is essential when creating your space. Dust, sweep, wipe down windows, and flat surfaces, and wash or vacuum the floors. *I have included a homemade cleaning oil you can use at the end of this blog for your cleaning pleasure.

Get rid of any clutter you may have accumulated, and get rid of things that no longer serve you. If you find it hard to get rid of some things ask yourself the following 2 questions: Have I used it in the last 6 months? Does this item make me feel good? Toss it or donate it if you answered no to either question.

Once your space is clean, add some candles or an essential oil diffuser. For example, you can use Lavender for relaxation. Bergamot for joy and happiness. Or Ylang Ylang for pleasure and embodiment.

Add natural elements that call to you, such as your favorite plant or plants, crystals, or driftwood.

Decorate the walls around your space with images or positive affirmations that inspire you.

If there is anything else that you feel is sacred to you and would be a nice addition to your space, you can add them if you desire. This is your “feel” good space, and what you choose to add to it is what makes it sacred to you.

Sacred space is essential to self-care, and I highly recommend creating one for yourself. You can go to this space every day to sip on a cup of coffee or your favorite teas, read your favorite book, write in your journal, or meditate. It is a space that makes you feel magical, helps you ground, and should be a space that provides security from everyday stress, creating a feeling of well being.
