Friday the 13th: Is It a Lucky Day For You?

friday-the-13th-150x150Today is Friday the 13th – is it a day you worry about when you see it on the calendar?  Coming off a rather horrific Mercury Retrograde period (especially it happening over the holiday season) and seeing this wonderful date on the January schedule made me at first say “wonderful another day to throw us for a loop, have we not suffered enough?” but then thinking about it and pulling a few tarot cards, made us realize that maybe its not such a bad day after all.  Here is our Tarot Advisor Jenna giving us her insights, tarot style, about this infamous day.

While many will laugh off the superstitious day, others will remain in bed paralyzed by fear and avoid daily tasks, conducting business or traveling. In the U.S., an estimated 17 to 21 million people suffer from a fear of Friday the 13th, according to a study by the North Carolina Stress Management Center and Phobia Institute.

The phobia, known as friggatriskaidekaphobia, is not uncommon. The word comes from Frigga, the name of the Norse goddess for whom Friday is named, and triskaidekaphobia, or fear of the number thirteen. It is also sometimes called paraskevidekatriaphobia, from the Greek Paraskevi for Friday, Dekatreis for thirteen and phobia for fear.

There will be only two incidences of the superstitious day this year, January and October. In the Gregorian calendar, Friday the 13th always occurs at least once a year and can appear up to three times in any one year.

Some people find this day to be an unlucky day while others find it to be very lucky, and many get married on this day as well! It’s apparently a great day to get discounts on venues!

Whether you feel it is an unlucky day for you or alternatively a very lucky day, why not get a Tarot Reading and find out what’s going on in your life and ask those questions you seek insight into!
